Bug in Vista opens up doors for more exploits Print
Wednesday, 04 April 2007

A bug in Vista was recently uncovered that is going to open up a ton of exploit possibilities.

Basically what's going on is that there was a bug found in the animated cursor portion of Vista that allows hackers to exploit and take over a Vista machine.

Nothing new right?  We've seen this type of thing before.. but therein lies the problem.  We've seen this before, in older versions of Windows, all the way back to Windows NT.  So how could this have possibly come up in Vista?

Because unlike they say, Vista isn't "made from scratch".. they've reused old code from past operating systems.  Pretty common practice, but Vista wasn't supposed to be this way.  It was supposed to be new, so it would normally take hackers some time before they found all of the exploits.. but guess what, they'll start to use the old list of common exploits from previous versions of Windows.

This is upsetting a lot of people. They're now feeling like their "brand new" operating system isn't quite as secure as they might have thought.

One bug might not be that big of a deal, but it does make you wonder exactly how much they did copy from the previous operating systems.. I mean, why not copy something if it works, right?  Why spend time reinventing the wheel if the one you have rolls just fine?

I realize that hackers will always prevail with enough time.. but this sounds like it's going to speed up the process, since they can now dig up their old hacks and try them out. Though, that assumes that they haven't already thought of that.
